West Northamptonshire Pickleball is about much more than booking a court or playing a game.
It was created to be a place where people feel welcomed, encouraged and able to enjoy sport, regardless of their ability, experience or confidence.
West Northamptonshire Pickleball is about much more than booking a court or playing a game.
It was created to be a place where people feel welcomed, encouraged and able to enjoy sport, regardless of their ability, experience or confidence.
Over 10 years ago, I went to a social badminton club with a friend.
At the end of the evening, I was told I could come back, but my friend wasn’t good enough.
That moment stayed with me.
Sport should be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their ability, experience or skill.
When I started West Northamptonshire Pickleball, I made myself one promise:
We would never be that club.
That promise has shaped every decision we have made since.
It influences the sessions we offer, the way we coach and the atmosphere we have worked so hard to create.
We deliberately offer a pathway that allows players to grow in confidence and challenge themselves at a pace that feels right for them.
Some people are taking their first steps after a Beginners session and joining Social Pickleball for the first time.
Others are trying Friday Matchplay as their introduction to more competitive play.
Some are ready to challenge themselves in our Wednesday DUPR Matchplay sessions.
Wherever someone joins us, they may be stepping outside their comfort zone.
It is absolutely fine to be competitive.
Many of us enjoy that side of pickleball, which is why we offer sessions for different abilities, experiences and ambitions.
But alongside competition comes something even more important: remembering what it felt like to be the newest player in the room.
Sometimes you will be paired with someone who has only been playing for a few weeks.
Sometimes you will be the less experienced player yourself.
A smile, a few encouraging words and a little patience can make the difference between someone gaining the confidence to return or deciding the sport is not for them.
Every single one of us was a beginner once.
Every confident player you see today started by missing serves, forgetting the score, hitting the ball into the net and wondering whether they were good enough to keep coming back.
We want WNP to be a place where people are allowed to learn, improve, compete and enjoy themselves without feeling judged.
At WNP, we would rather create one more player who loves the game than win one more game ourselves.
When people think of West Northamptonshire Pickleball, we hope they do not just think of great pickleball.
We hope they think of a place where they were welcomed, encouraged and made to feel that they belonged.
Thank you to everyone who helps create that atmosphere every week.
It really is what makes this club so special ❤️
